Health systems today are very dynamic, and it is clear that the roles of everybody involved change rapidly too. The Collaborative is very interested in these changes. So for the first year of our Collaborative we have decided to put the spotlight on the changing roles of Ministries of Health as entry point into that exciting arena.

Through collaboration with governance experts, policy makers and other health system stakeholders, the Collaborative aims to identify what roles of ministries of health in the health systems of 21st century are and should be playing.

Close to practice, we will look into all the challenges people face and what capacities they deem urgent in Ministries to exercise proper stewardship roles in an increasingly complex environment.

A variety of ways of working together have already been identified. But of course, the Collaborative is always open to new suggestions. There are different ways in which you can already engage:

  • There are concrete projects on which people team up and collaborate. See our 'Collaborations' below and join in.
  • If you have clear, critical analyses to share of the current dynamics in health systems and their impact on the roles of Ministries of health, let us know. Contact us here.
  • Share publicly-documented reforms of MOH relating to the role and capacity of MOH. Contact us here.
  • If you wish to take on the co-hosting of a specific thematic Governance Lab regarding specific dimensions of the changing roles of Ministries of Health, let us know. Contact us here.
  • If you are a civil servant, decision-maker or change-maker in health, and you have interesting stories or innovative suggestions to share regarding the governance capacities of Ministries, please do! Comment below.
