Social participation & people's voice: the missing piece in the UHC puzzle
WHO, UHC2030, the UHC Partnership, and the Health System Governance Collaborative are pleased to announce the conference copy launch of the “Handbook on Social Participation for Universal Health Coverage“ on 15 December 2020 at 14:00-15:30 CET.
Under the event entitled, "Social participation and people‘s voices: the missing piece in the UHC puzzle", the WHO guidance on how to strengthen government’s engagement with populations, communities and civil society will be presented.
The main focus of the handbook is to illustrate, concretely, how to create an enabling environment for social participation in health policy making, while ably managing the complexities of a participatory process. Examples such as the National Health Assembly in Thailand or the National Health Council in Portugal will be examined along with many other engagement mechanisms analysed for the book.
2020 has been a long moment of reckoning for health systems around the world, yet the WHO Director General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus gave us a clear path forward: "The importance of social participation has never been more apparent. The Covid-[19] pandemic has underlined the critical importance of trust and communication between institutions and the public." - CSO-WHO Dialogue: Social Participation and Accountability within and beyond the Covid-19 Pandemic, October 2020.
This handbook provides a first step on this path to "build back better”, by engaging those affected from health policies.
Join us for a lively discussion that will illustrate on how to better advance UHC through social participation.
